There are Smackdown spoilers from last night in Little Rock, AR. WWE is advertising Kurt Angle/JBL/Heidenreich vs. Big Show/Undertaker/John Cena as a dark match for Smackdown on February 22 in Philadelphia, PA. WWE updated their PPV schedule through next January, listing an unnamed, non-branded show for June in New York City, NY which may be an ECW show. Dave Meltzer says Smackdown has not been cancelled despite reports that Leslie Moonves, co-president and co-CEO of Viacom, reportedly said that they've decided not to renew Smackdown when their contract expires next year due to a new strategy of more serious programming for UPN. Big Show and Randy Orton were the guests on Byte This tonight with Big Show discussing his goals, books, and Steve Austin, and Orton talking about Royal Rumble, his hardcore match, and movie careers. The Rise and Fall of ECW DVD moved ahead of the Ric Flair Collection DVD to become the second highest selling wrestling DVD ever with 94,758 copies sold, now trailing only Wrestlemania XX with 109,266 copies sold. The Rundown on HBO was the highested rated pay cable show of the week with 2.43 million viewers. IGN posted a Chris Jericho vs. Garrison Cade Wrestlemania 21 rivals match-up in their countdown to the Xbox release. Some former employees of Ric Flair's Gold Gym in Hickory, NC are upset after their final paychecks bounced following the gym's closing last month, but Flair's attorney has promised the problem will be cleared up.
Ring of Honor announced they'll be returning to New York City, NY at the New Balance George Washington Bridge Armory on May 21 and they reportedly now have their own license to promote within New York state. Ring of Honor will also be in Woodbridge, CT on March 12, their first show in that state in over a year. Ring of Honor will be distributing Pro Wrestling Unplugged videos and DVDs.
Jersey All Pro Wrestling will be returning to Philadelphia, PA's ECW Arena for the first time in three years on March 26. Terry Funk will reportedly still wrestle at this weekend's Wrestle Reunion show with his brother Dory Funk Jr. against Chris Harris and James Storm. The Montreal Gazette ran an article on wrestler and photographer Tony Lanza, following his death last week, including a link to a gallery of some of his bodybuilding photography. SLAM has an article on the Styles brothers, Damian and Drake, and their work in the Canadian Professional Wrestling promotion.
