PWInsider has locked out Opera users (PC/Wii/Mobile) and any users without javascript (potentially including Google and other webcrawlers) with a new method of inserting story text via AJAX calls in an effort to prevent people from cutting and pasting their stories to other sites. While I do agree that blatantly ripping off their stories is wrong, so is punishing innocent users and what's worse is doing it an ineffective way that's easy to get around if you have any experience with javascript and any motivation to do so. Since I do have experience with javascript and the motivation to show how easy it is to get around, you can still see the text of the article via the link the AJAX is using to retrieve the text, regardless of what browser you're using. Oh, and that's the text minus any ads or site formatting, so if you were going to copy and paste from it, that's likely an even easier to use format. And If you're using Firefox, an even easier method for getting at the text is highlighting a single character of story text, then right click and choose "View Selection Source." But, it's their site, and they can do what they want, even if it is pointless.
That's it for today. Thanks for reading.
